Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy shot while at a concert in Mississippi

Missouri Tigers football star Ahmad Hardy, one of the top running backs in college football, was shot at a concert in Mississippi, the team announced Monday in a statement.

According to Mizzou Football, Hardy suffered a gunshot wound on Sunday morning and underwent surgery the same day. He is in stable condition.

“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the statement said. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”

The statement added: “A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time.”

Hardy, 20, is one of the premier running backs in college football. He ran for 1,649 yards last season, second most in FBS. He also ran for 16 touchdowns in his first season with the Tigers.

Hardy grew up in Mississippi, attending Lawrence County High School in Monticello. He was a three-star recruit in the class of 2024, initially attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe before transferring to Missouri before the 2025 football season.

Hardy has said his motivation for playing football is to support his family.

“I grew up with mostly my mom raising four children: three boys and one girl,” Hardy told The Hawkeye, the student newspaper at UL Monroe, in October 2024. “Watching her struggle to get us to practice, put food on the table and work hard broke her back. She did everything she could, and that motivated me to make sure she never works again.”
