Last month, Kerala declared snakebite envenomation a notifiable disease. Though snakebites are common in the State, a 2019 incident triggered a systemic overhaul. A 10-year-old girl had died of a venomous snakebite in a school in Wayanad, and people were outraged. Since then, a digital rescue network has been launched and school infrastructure upgraded.
