Gaining weight on thyroid medication? Here’s why
What are some symptoms that your dose of thyroid medication is too low? One major symptom is that of weight gain. It’s not uncommon for thyroid patients who are taking a small dose of thyroid medication to experience weight gain. This is because thyroid hormone helps to regulate your metabolism. And if your dose isn’t sufficiently high then you may experience weight gain. Does that mean that taking thyroid medication will cause weight loss? Not exactly. Some thyroid patients can lose weight when they optimize their dose but this isn’t common. Having said that, weight gain when taking thyroid medication is never normal and means something is off and needs to be evaluated further. #thyroid #hypothyroidism #levothyroxine #weightgain #thyroidsymptoms
