Levels Advisor Robert Lustig, MD, explains what your glucose levels tell you about your health.
– Ideally, fasting glucose is 70–85 mg/dL.
– If it’s in the 90s, you may have insulin resistance and be on a trajectory toward prediabetes (which is 100 mg/dL or above).
– A good goal is for your level to stay under 110 mg/dL after eating. However, if it goes slightly higher and then trends downward again within 90 minutes, that’s OK, too.
– Ultimately, the goal is to get your glucose level back to baseline within 90 minutes.
– If your glucose doesn’t return to baseline within that timeframe, that’s a sign of insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction.
