\u201c[If] every morning I wake up, and I feel sluggish, or you know, I\u2019m achy, I\u2019m like, okay, close your eyes\u2026you\u2019re gonna get through this tunnel,\u201d said Abraira. \u201cAnd that\u2019s how visually I was able to say focus, focus, focus, look, the light is getting brighter.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI am very much in the \u2018I don\u2019t have time for this phase,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a party planning extraordinaire, she said her mentality was always to drop everything and do whatever people needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cAnd then came cancer knocking on the door and says, \u2018Sweetheart, have a seat and stay humble. It\u2019s time\u2026to test you,\u2019\u201d Abraira said. \u201c[I] definitely feel that it gave me this different type of strength and confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Thinking of herself in two versions\u2014before cancer and after cancer\u2014has also helped her cope.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201c[Just] now is when I\u2019m starting to post again, old photos of [me] with hair,\u201d she said. \u201cI could not look at those photos of me in the past, cause it just kind of broke me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
She is embracing the new version of herself now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cThe new me is actually the person I like better\u2026because I don\u2019t need all the fluff. I don\u2019t need a wig,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
She puts more focus on her health post cancer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201cMy health is of utmost importance. The way I eat is different. I don\u2019t drink the way I used to drink at all\u2026there needs to be a really good reason why I\u2019m drinking at this point,\u201d she said. \u201c[I] really focus on my health and being the best version I can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Using her popularity and platform to spread awareness is rewarding for Abraira<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI pick partnerships that make sense for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Teaming up with Abbott to share her experience with the Oncotype DX test felt natural to her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201c[It] was kind of like, yes, this is amazing cause I can speak on it without looking at notes\u2026It\u2019s coming from [my heart] because I lived it, I experienced it, so I want to help,\u201d Abraira said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The fact that the test applies to women of all cultural backgrounds who qualify to take it makes the partnership even more special to Abraira.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201c[When] you\u2019re talking about people like my grandmother who\u2019s so superstitious and who just wants to pray the cancer away; \u2018No, no, grandma, we\u2019re going to listen to the science, and we\u2019re going to take this test, and this is what it\u2019s going to show us, and we\u2019re going to follow the steps, and then we\u2019re going to get help to reduce the risk,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She is grateful to live in a time and country that provides access to cutting-edge science and tools, and she hopes other women take initiative to make breast health a priority.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c[Get] tested if you can\u2026and test yourself in the shower, do all the things to make sure that you\u2019re able to say, \u2018Something ain\u2019t right.\u2019 You know your body more than anybody, and when you feel something, don\u2019t just go with it,\u201d Abraira said. \u201c[We\u2019re] all go-moms and we\u2019re doing this, and we\u2019re doing that, but if you don\u2019t take care of you first, then what\u2019s the point of this life?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
