{"id":38059,"date":"2026-05-16T06:59:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T06:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pickbydoc.com\/?p=38059"},"modified":"2026-05-16T06:59:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T06:59:09","slug":"trump-says-isis-second-in-command-killed-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pickbydoc.com\/?p=38059","title":{"rendered":"Trump says ISIS second-in-command killed in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"anchor-1b72df\" class=\"body-graf\">President Donald Trump late Friday said that a top Islamic State group commander has been killed in Africa in a joint operation with Nigeria\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n<p><button class=\"styles_subscriptionCTA__LOUeY\" id=\"subscriptionCTA\" type=\"button\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"styles_textWrapper__vxvko\">\n<p class=\"styles_text__daaVB styles_textLarge__qlzwu\">Subscribe to read this story ad-free    <\/p>\n<p class=\"styles_text__daaVB\">Get unlimited access to ad-free articles and exclusive content.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/rockcms\/2026-01\/arrow-f55fa5.svg\" alt=\"arrow\" class=\"styles_arrow__tnruW\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/button><\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-982fdd\" class=\"body-graf\">Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second-in-command of the militant group, was killed, Trump said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116582139808210458\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post on Truth Social. <\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ffde4c\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cTonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6fa577\" class=\"body-graf\">The Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, has wreaked havoc in Iraq, Syria and other parts of the world where supporters have carried out terror attacks.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c8e22a\" class=\"body-graf\">Its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/iraqi-general-says-his-troops-gave-u-s-info-led-n1078301\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elusive leader<\/a>, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/iraqi-general-says-his-troops-gave-u-s-info-led-n1078301\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was killed in 2019<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-df39f2\" class=\"body-graf\">Abu Hafs al Qurayshi was named leader of the group in August 2023, the U.S. Congressional Research Service said in a report.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3ce6d5\" class=\"body-graf\">In 2023 the U.S. State Department designated al-Minuki as a \u201cspecially designated global terrorist,\u201d which imposes sanctions on any property in the U.S. and restricts transactions.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7fb7b7\" class=\"body-graf\">While the Islamic State suffered military setbacks and the loss of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/mideast\/defeated-isis-has-found-safe-haven-ungoverned-part-iraq-n1076081\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stronghold in Syria<\/a>, last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dni.gov\/files\/ODNI\/documents\/assessments\/ATA-2025-Unclassified-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual U.S. threat assessment<\/a> said it \u201cremains the world\u2019s largest Islamic terrorist organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-0aed65\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">In 2024, a spokesman for the group \u201cpublicly hailed the group\u2019s Africa expansion,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/trump-says-isis-second-command-killed-africa-rcna345430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump late Friday said that a top Islamic State group commander has been killed in Africa in a joint operation with Nigeria\u2019s armed forces.
